Where to go trekking in Kyrgyzstan?

Kyrgyzstan, where about 90% of the territory is covered by mountains, has a huge number of trekking routes.
The main multi-day routes pass through Karakol, which is the starting point for most treks, available from June to September. The best months for trekking are July and August. One of the most popular routes is the trek to Lake Ala-Kol. Depending on the difficulty and duration, routes can take from 3 to 6 days, and the journey can be started from different gorges, the most famous of which is the Karakol gorge. This trek is suitable for people with good physical fitness, as it requires an average level of endurance. For those who have limited time, one-day routes are ideal. For example, in the vicinity of Bishkek, you can take a walk in the Ala-Archa gorge and to the waterfall in the Alamedin gorge - both routes are just an hour's drive from the capital and offer picturesque views. Another interesting option is trekking to Lake Kol-Tor, which is located 90 km from Bishkek. This route requires good physical fitness, and the hike itself is best started early in the morning.
There are also several popular routes in the Naryn region. One of them starts in the village of Kyzart and leads to Lake Son-Kol. You can also go on a hike to Lake Kol-Ukok from Kochkor.
In the south of Kyrgyzstan is Lenin Peak, one of the highest peaks in the country, reaching 7 thousand meters. Even if you do not plan to climb the peak itself, you can walk to the base camp or visit the Tulpar lakes, which offer stunning views. These routes are just a small part of the trekking destinations that can be found in Kyrgyzstan. There are many other beautiful places in the country where you can go hiking and enjoy nature.
